Our Roots
Nestled along the banks of the majestic Murray River, Whistling Kite Biodynamic Wines has been a custodian of the land since 1976. What began as a serene expanse of river country has flourished into much more - a vineyard, a sanctuary, a vocation.
In the early days, we planted vines with nothing but our hands and a wealth of aspirations. Every decision we made stemmed from a profound reverence for the natural world. We collaborated with the land, honoring its rhythms, its sagacity, and its untamed spirit.
By 1997, we attained organic certification. In 2009, we wholeheartedly embraced biodynamic principles. It wasn't the effortless route, but it was the rightful one. The vines responded. The wildlife thrived. Vitality returned to the soil, and our wines began to mirror authenticity.
Today, a new generation perpetuates that vision - adorned with earth-stained boots, inquisitive minds, and the same conviction that exceptional wine germinates long before the winery.
Our name is derived from the avian guardian that has perpetually soared above us - a tranquil sentinel of the heavens. Its melodic call often graces the early morning or its silhouette glides above the vines at dusk.
The whistling kite admonishes us to remain present, inquisitive, and untamed.
This vineyard transcends being merely a physical location - it embodies a living, breathing system. Worms, birds, bees, microbes, vines - each plays a pivotal role. We treat our vineyard as an ecosystem, not a factory.
Our biodynamic methodologies nurture this equilibrium - employing composts, cover crops, lunar cycles, and a profusion of patience.

Artisanal Wines
Our wines are unadulterated reflections of the terroir. Cultivated in vibrant soil, fermented with indigenous yeasts, they resonate with sincerity and character. Some exude playfulness, some broodiness, yet all are unwavering.
We work with both classic and rare varietals - from Shiraz and Viognier to Mencia, Montepulciano, Gros Manseng, and Piedirosso - allowing each season to shape its distinct expressions.
